Taunus Observatory

Taunus Observatory

The seismic station at the Taunus Observatory is maintained by the departement of Geophysics at the Institut of Geosciences at Goethe-University in Frankfurt together with the BGR (Bundesanstalt für Geowissenschaften und Rohstoffe).
The station is part of the German Regional Seismic Network (GRSN).

The coordinates of the station are: 50.2225 N, 8.4473 E, altitude 846 m (WGS84).

The recordings of the seismic station are used for the exploration of the structure of the earth and to locate regional and global earthquakes.

The data is automaticaly archived at the Central Observatory in Erlangen as part of the BGR and can be used for research purposes.

Recent seismogramm of the last 24 houres

- This service is provided in cooperation with the GEOFON network of the GFZ Potsdam.

The Taunus Observatory will be extended by 10 further seismic stations as part of the FERRY project.
